Objectives: We are investigating and implementing ways of having a single kernel expose different OS personalities characterized by the amount of enforced policies, the exposed mechanisms and the level of OS bypass for hardware access. Among other things, we seek to:

  • Grant HPC runtimes exclusive and direct(as much as possible)
    access to hardware resources.
  • Make system API calls behave differently depending on the partition of
    resources they are invoked on.

Testbed: Prancelot and Dancelot with a Xeon Phi card and a local hard drive.  We need RHEL7 or equivalent (if possible) to be installed on the local hard drive initially and we will maintain the local hard drive contents. IPMI is required to cycle the machine power. We have no plan for PXE booting these nodes.
