Objectives: We will investigate various hardware features and configuration that are provided by modern processors such as power limiting, cluster-on-die, advanced C states, advanced sensor readings. Such features tend to affect application performance characteristics and the power and thermal behavior of a node. To evaluate state-of-the-art features, we boot our customized OS kernel based on the very latest Linux kernel and change BIOS.
Testbed: We’re currently using one of the “Things” nodes (Haswell 2699v3) in tinkerlab. A similar hardware configuration is needed to continue our study.
